May 20 Wednesday
The ARTx3 Campus will host the opening reception for the exhibition “Blaque” by Jonathan Wright, from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas (ASC), 701 S. Main St. The event is free, and refreshments will be available.
“Blaque” explores how a single shade can carry grief, resilience, tradition, and transformation within the African diaspora. Blending technology with traditional techniques, the artist uses matte black on black paper to prompt slow, intentional analysislooking—revealing layered histories, personal memory, and cultural legacy. The exhibition invites viewers to reflect on their own heritage while confronting how stories can fade unless we choose to see them fully.
Wright is an art instructor at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in visual arts. He completed his Master of Fine Arts in printmaking this year at Arizona State University. His love of working with his hands is what drives him to combine traditional printmaking techniques, such as woodcutting, with modern technology. His current body of work emphasizes the rich history of the African American Community, their experiences and their heritage.

Unlock the secrets of connecting patrons to your artwork.
Attract viewers and connect patrons to your artwork! Join Dr. Rachel Trusty, director of the Baum Gallery at the University of Central Arkansas, to learn how artists can foster deeper engagement between viewers and their artwork.
Participants will examine the unique values of on-site and online engagement — and discover ways (and trends!) to build a richer, immersive understanding of artworks and art spaces. Trusty will discuss strategies artists and collectives can use to create personal connections that translate to community and individual success.
This session also will look at the evolving roles of online sales services like Etsy, Artsy and Shopify and best practices for using these online platforms.
Participants will:· Discover national and statewide trends in gallery and arts spaces attracting attention and viewership.
· Learn how storytelling, collective and individual identity intertwine to create unique viewer experiences.
· Unlock the potential of partnerships to build your individual career while also supporting your community.
· Delve into the multilayered experience of engagement practices that attract audiences.
This workshop is a partnership with the Arkansas Arts Council and Central Arkansas Collective, which will provide lunch refreshments. The event is free, but spaces are limited. Registration is required.
