Hutchinson Challenges State To Increase Grad Rate, Reduce Completion Time

Office of the Governor

Governor Asa Hutchinson is challenging Arkansas to raise its overall college graduation rate and increase college enrollment of adults.

Hutchinson used his weekly radio address to highlight increasing college costs and the added benefits of having a two or four year college degree. He also made several challenges to the state.

“I’d like to see us shorten the time to a degree by emphasizing concurrent credit programs, improving the college readiness of students and reducing the number of students who take remedial courses,” Hutchinson said.

“I’d like to see a percentage of state scholarship funds set aside for targeted groups,” he added.

The president’s online college scorecard says the net cost of attending the state’s largest four year institution rose by 20 percent in the last school year.
