The Old Main building is the oldest structure on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville.

Ohio State University Provost and Executive Vice President, Dr. Joseph E. Steinmetz,  has been selected as the University of Arkansas’s next Chancellor.

Steinmetz has a background in brain science and psychology and previously served as a dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Kansas.

The University of Arkansas is offering him an annual salary of $700,000.

University spokesman SteeveVoorhies said Steinmetz conveyed a collaborative leadership style during his campus visit.

"It wasn't a top down kind of thing where he would come in and 'these are the things we need to do.' Obviously the goal all along is to move the University up to the next level,” said Voorhies.

Steinmetz must still be approved by the board of trustees.  He will begin on January 1. He succeeds David Gearhart, who retired earlier this year.
