Little Rock’s mayor is calling for an independent investigation of the Little Rock Police Department to determine "what, if any, corrective actions need to be taken," according to a news release.
The call for the investigation comes after three separate parties within the police department, including two assistance-chiefs, filed lawsuits against both Little Rock Police Chief Keith Humphrey and the city of Little Rock.
Mayor Frank Scott Jr. announced the investigation in a statement issued Tuesday night. According to Scott, the review will cover personnel policies and procedures, the handling of private and confidential information and harassment and misconduct.
Scott said the goal of the review is to "ensure compliance with best practices in policy, procedure, and protocol within our Police Department. This review will also reassure residents of the LRPD's integrity."
According to Scott, the review will be on the police department as a whole, and not on any one individual. As far as who will conduct the review, Scott said he will make that announcement in the coming days.
Scott cited the city’s standard practice on not commenting or interfering with pending litigation and would not comment on the three lawsuits against Humphrey and the city.
