Come celebrate International Heritage Breed Day 2024 at the Zoo! Visitors will be able to learn about agriculture in Arkansas and heritage breeds by visiting the Arkansas Heritage Farm Exhibit.Heritage breeds are traditional livestock breeds that were raised before industrial agriculture became a mainstream practice. These breeds were carefully selected and bred over time to develop traits that made them well-adapted to the local environment. These unique and often rare breeds of domestic animals carry with them a rich cultural and genetic heritage that is irreplaceable. AZA-accredited zoos, such as Little Rock Zoo, play a pivotal role in the conservation of these heritage breeds.Heritage breeds are important for our future and the future of our agricultural food system. These are traditional, historic breeds that retain essential attributes for survival and self-sufficiency – fertility, foraging ability, longevity, maternal instincts, ability to mate naturally, and resistance to diseases and parasites.Come visit the Farm to see all of our different heritage breed animals.Schedule of Events (included in regular admission):Saturday, May 18, 202410:00-12:00: Awareness table near Heritage farm, farm exploration station, and hands-on activitiesMore details to come!* Please confirm directly with the promoter or box office to ensure event details have not changed.
The Made in Arkansas Film Festival returns to CALS Ron Robinson Theater for its sixth year on May 17-19, 2024. The film festival showcases the work of Arkansas filmmakers working here and all over the country. “Made in Arkansas is about cultivating Arkansas filmmakers. Our festival screens more Arkansas filmmakers than any other festival in the state,” said Festival Director Johnnie Brannon. “We provide an opportunity for filmmakers to meet each other, view each other’s work, and build networks that hopefully lead to even more Arkansas-made films.”
Brannon credits Made in Arkansas’s partnership with the Central Arkansas Library System as a huge factor in the festival’s success. “The screen and sound quality in the Ron Robinson Theater are second to none. As a filmmaker, there are few things as exciting as sitting with an audience and watching your film up on the big screen. We love working with CALS to showcase the incredible work being done by filmmakers, actors, and creatives across the state.”

The ARTx3 Campus will host an opening reception for “Quotidian Moments: Different Lenses” an exhibition by Rhaelene Lowther and Anna Zusman, from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 22. The exhibition will be in the Ben J. Altheimer Gallery at The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St.
This collaborative exhibition was born from the scenic walks the two Magnolia-based artists took together during the pandemic. They discovered that they responded most to transformation and directed to subject matter related to seasons, lighting, weather, and lifecycles. These became the catalysts for concepts that emerged into a series of paintings. These paintings provide a glimpse into how observation and creativity, the willingness to explore them, can lead to important discoveries about oneself and those surrounding them.
The exhibition will be on view through Saturday, June 29. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. It is sponsored by Relyance Bank.
